Ticking fabric was traditionally used as a mattress covering and gradually evolved to be used as a decorative fabric for interiors. Ticking fabric is recognisable for its striped design which features a triple stripe, a wider central stripe with a narrower stripe either side. This has the effect of softening the wider central stripes and is visually more interesting than a uniform stripe pattern. What Colour is Ticking Fabric? Ticking stripes can be in any colour and often in classic primary colours like red, blue and green as well as black and grey. The stripes are usually contrasted with a natural cream or off-white colour to off-set the coloured stripes. The subtle stripes are useful to pick out the colour in a complementing fabric, such as a plain or a floral. What is Ticking Fabric Used For? Ticking stripe fabric is excellent for blinds, curtains and cushion covers. Usually in a medium weight 100% cotton, ticking fabric is also used in bag-making.
