Our standard voile fabric comes from India and is 100% cotton with a lovely loose weave. Voile comes from the French word for veil and its use has evolved from curtains to dressmaking as it is a great natural lining. What Kind of Fabric is Voile? Voile is a delicate, airy fabric known for its lightweight and slightly transparent quality. It features a plain, open weave that promotes breathability, making it an excellent option for clothing designed for warm climates. Traditionally crafted from cotton or cotton blends, voile offers a smooth, soft feel and a graceful drape. Compared to stiffer cotton fabrics, it is more flexible and resistant to creasing, which makes it a popular choice for linings as well as flowy garments like dresses, blouses, and scarves. Additionally, voile is sometimes used for home décor, such as sheer curtains, due to its elegant and lightweight nature. Is Voile 100% Cotton? Voile is almost always made from 100% cotton although it is sometimes blended with other fabrics like rayon, polyester or even other natural fibres like linen. Voile fabric for curtains is more likely to be blended with a synthetic fibre than voile fabrics intended for use in dressmaking.
