The smaller siblings of the tall and grand gladioli we automatically picture when we think about this flower, dwarf or nanus gladioli are also less severe and structured in their appearance. With a plant that reaches only about 60-90cm these plants will not shoot up such long flower spikes, and are less likely to need caning to support their flower spires. The trumpet-shaped flowers of dwarf gladiolus have a freer look and many are marked with a cerise lipstick kiss pattern. Nanus gladioli produce very good cut flowers and are a delightful addition to a sunny border, especially if mixed with other flowers, like the smaller dahlias. Dwarf gladiolus bulbs will add texture and height variation to the garden landscape.
