About

Trumpet daffodils capture the familiar beauty of spring, with long central trumpets framed by a circle of spreading petals. Each stem carries one flower, its trumpet as long as or longer than the surrounding petals. Within that classic shape lies plenty of variety: rich golden yellows, luminous whites and combinations of pale petals with deeper-coloured trumpets. Their bold outlines look particularly lovely in generous drifts, bringing a sense of abundance to borders and grassy spaces. Plant trumpet daffodil bulbs along a drive, beneath deciduous trees or in a substantial pot by the door. A few stems gathered for a vase bring that same cheerful presence indoors. Plant trumpet narcissus bulbs in autumn, choosing a sunny or partly shaded position with well-drained soil. Set them with their pointed tips upwards, at a depth around three times the bulb’s height, and water after planting. These hardy perennial daffodils are well suited to UK gardens, and many varieties naturalise readily, returning each spring and gradually multiplying where conditions suit them. Leave the foliage intact after flowering so it can replenish the bulbs, and delay mowing naturalised areas until the leaves have yellowed and died back. For container displays, use peat-free compost and pots with drainage holes. Explore our trumpet daffodil varieties to find enduring favourites and distinctive interpretations of this much-loved spring flower.
