About
Bacteriostatic water is a solution of sterile water that contains a very small amount of benzyl alcohol – 0.9%, to be exact. It is used to dilute or dissolve medications before they are given to a patient by intravenous, intramuscular, or subcutaneous injection. Water for injections like bacteriostatic water is almost always supplied in multiple-dose vials that allow for needles to be reentered multiple times. The solution in these vials will begin to lose potency 28 days after opening and need to be stored in an area that is kept cold, between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit.
