Ilmari Tapiovaara was a legendary Finnish designer who left an unforgettable mark on the world of furniture design. Born on September 7, 1914, in Helsinki, Tapiovaara would soon craft some of Finland’s most functional, aesthetically pleasing furniture. Throughout his career, Tapiovaara designed for several well-known companies, such as Artek , Asko, and Keravan Puuteollisuus, where he played a pivotal role in shaping their design identity. Much of his designs were influenced by the natural surroundings of Finland. One of Tapiovaara’s most famous designs is the Domus Chair created in 1946. This iconic chair embodies the principles of functionalism and showcases his ability to combine simplicity with comfort.
