About
Lionheart Trains has proudly unveiled its brand-new LMS Class 2 2-6-2 tank engine at the Guild O Gauge Wigan Winter Show 2024 — and we’re thrilled to announce that pre-orders are now open at Footplate! Designed by H.G. Ivatt and built between 1946 and 1952 , these distinctive “Prairie” locomotives were introduced to replace ageing branch-line engines. Their well-balanced 2-6-2 wheelbase made them ideal for mixed-traffic duties, while Ivatt’s clever engineering touches — including self-cleaning ashpans and smokeboxes — made them a favourite with crews and shed staff alike. After the first ten examples were built by the LMS, British Railways expanded the class to 130 locomotives , allocating them across the London Midland, Southern and Western Regions , where they could be seen hauling both passenger and goods trains right up until 1967 . Four examples survive today — and all are still operational, testament to just how capable and well-loved these locomotives were. 🔥 Secure yours now — Footplate pre-orders are open! Don’t miss your chance to add this iconic Ivatt design to your O Gauge collection.
