High rings provide clearance for larger objectives and heavy barrel contours that a medium ring would sit too close to. On AR flat-tops, they also bring the eyepiece to a more natural head height. Check your stock comb before committing: a higher bore axis needs a higher comb to keep your cheek in the right position. Check your stock comb height before ordering.
