His combination of rim protection, mid-range shooting, and ball-handling for a 6-foot-10 forward made him one of the most versatile defenders in modern basketball. In February 2025, the Lakers shipped Davis to the Dallas Mavericks in a blockbuster trade for Luka Doncic — one of the most surprising deals in recent NBA history. Davis joined a Dallas core that he and Cooper Flagg (the 2025-26 Rookie of the Year) now anchor, with Mavs ownership betting that AD's defensive impact plus Flagg's two-way ceiling can keep Dallas in the title conversation.
