Stem cell factor (SCF), also known as KIT ligand, is a pleiotropic cytokine that drives tissue regeneration, neovascularization and hematopoietic reconstitution. In the bone marrow niche, SCF produced by stromal cells and adipocytes expands hematopoietic progenitors and supports multilineage regeneration. It also regulates melanocyte survival and mast cell development.
