Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) is a secreted morphogen essential for embryonic patterning. During limb development, SHH is expressed in the polarizing region and specifies positional values across the anterior–posterior axis while stimulating mesenchyme proliferation and regulating limb bud growth. In the central nervous system, SHH signaling guides the specification and differentiation of motor neurons and modulates neuroinflammation.
