It promotes megakaryocyte progenitor cell proliferation and their maturation into platelets, leading to rapid increases in platelet counts when administered. Recombinant thrombopoietin accelerates recovery after chemotherapy or stem‑cell transplantation and is widely used to model megakaryocytopoiesis in vitro .
