Cornus Trees or Flowering Dogwood These shrub / trees are renowned for their attractive early flowers in spring, and their fantastic autumnal display once the foliage has dropped they leave an attractive textured bark to be admired These have a tendency to be classed as a small tree making it perfect for the smaller garden or terrace. Or you could always opt for a pot. They require very little maintenace making it also ideal for the non gardener. We have dwindled through the varieties and have found these to be our go to: Cornus Controversa Variegata - Wedding Cake Tree a focal point to any garden, the unusual tierred branches make the appearence of the tiered wedding cake. The branches are cloaked in light green foliaged margined with cream and in summer they have small white flowers. In autumn they do produce berries (not edible) and the foliage changes to shades of yellow before dropping. Cornus Kousa Chinensis - Flowering Dogwood - Similar to the China Girl. This is a real winner with the attractive large white flowers in spring / summer and the amazing colours of the foliage throughout auatumn, it is very rich in colours colours with reds and purple being the main ones... along with this the popular strawberry like fruits. Cornus Kousa China Girl - Flowering Dogwood - is a newer variety that is known for the masses of creamy yellow tinted bracts in June, The foliage is dark-green, turning striking shades of orange and red in the autumn. Small strawberry shaped, pink fruits follow in autumn (after hot summers) Cornus Florida - Flowering Dogwood - are beautiful trees with slightly twisted, leaves that show good autumn colour. Discrete green flowers, surrounded by four showy bracts in a snowy white, appear in early summer followed by red fruits Cornus Kousa Venus - Flowering Dogwood - this particular variety is slightly larger growing than its other and is more tolerant to drought and disease.
