Hebe Hebes are such a classic shrub that these days are often overlooked for the more vibrant, fancy colours. A great versatile shrub that are great for many positions in the garden. They are evergreen shrubs with dense leafy foliage made up of lance-shaped, rounded or ovate leaves. The erect racemes of tubular flowers protrude from the leaves in summer and are available in a wide range of colours (white, pinks, blues, purples) these look fabulous set against the leaf foliage colour. Where to Site Your Hebe Hebes are very versatile and can be used as ground cover to minimise weeding or can be pruned to form a low hedge in coastal areas. They look great in pots and mixed flower borders. All gardens should be able to home at least one. How to Grow and Look After you Hebe Hebes can adapt to most soil conditions but do best in loose well drained oil. The do well in both sun and shade, although you do get the best when planted in full sun. They don’t require too much fertiliser just a good granular one in spring before they start to grow. Dead head the flowers though out the season to keep new blooms coming through. You can also trim the plants back by half after flowering to promote bushier growth.
