This was the first time a Gundam series was ever set outside the Universal Century timeline, and boy did they REALLY swing for the fences! Instead of a raging war to determine the fate of the Earth, this time around the world has already been destroyed. Every nation moved to their own specific space colonies, and once every four years they all enter in a Gundam Fight to determine the ultimate champion and who gets to rule the solar system for the next 4 years.
