"When I think of how all this began, I’m still amazed. John would be astonished at how the company has grown from those first accounts at the Ritz in Boston and the Waldorf in New York. John often said how fortunate he was to learn from remarkable tea experts. Stanley Mason was a third-generation English tea taster in Salisbury who helped John with his early understanding of fine tea. Later, he connected with Norwood Pratt, who was another authority on tea. He always credited the support of our family, especially our sons Michael and Paul, for giving him the freedom to begin a whole new career at age fifty. I have a deep appreciation for many of the teas we offer at Harney & Sons today. However, these teas I have selected remind me of family, of adventure, of comfort, and of courage.
