Electric Blankets

About

Electric Blankets An electric blanket is the cheapest heat you can buy, at a few cent a night to run against roughly a euro an hour for a 2kW room heater, which is why it remains the first thing to add before turning the heating up. The choice comes down to where the blanket sits. An underblanket or heated mattress cover goes beneath the bottom sheet and warms the bed before you get into it, then most people switch it off for the night; premium fleece and plush versions add real padding as well as warmth, and mattress-cover styles have elasticated skirts so they stay put through the night. An overblanket sits on top of you like a quilt and holds warmth while you sleep, and a heated throw does the same job on a sofa as well as a bed, which makes it the most versatile option in a cold sitting room. Sizes run single, double, king and super king. On doubles and above, look for dual controls: two separate handsets and two heating zones so each side of the bed sets its own temperature, which settles most household arguments about heat. Timers, multiple heat settings and automatic shut-off after a set period are standard on the mid and upper range, and every blanket here is machine washable with the controller detached. Dreamland covers a wide spread, from Scandi and Hygge underblankets to dual control overblankets, mattress protectors and Snuggle Up heated throws. De Vielle supplies premium fleece underblankets in single through super king plus 200g heated throws, while Beurer and Monogram handle the Indulgence and Komfort heated mattress covers. Sirocco covers single and double underblankets at the value end, and Russell Hobbs the Sherpa microfleece heated throws. Electric blankets and heated throws are among the most reliably reduced items of the Irish year, partly because they are a common gift and partly because retailers clear winter stock into Christmas.
