About
Original Style open their own description of this finish with the point that matters most: it is hard to believe these tiles and mouldings are ceramic at all. The secret, they say, is in the dazzlingly reflective glazing — a finish that bounces light around and makes any room look much bigger. People take it for metal leaf, for polished steel, for silver plate. It is none of those. It is fired clay with a precious-metal glaze on it, and it is the only finish in the Artworks range that stops people guessing what they are looking at. Shop the Artworks Platinum Collection This is a short range and a deliberate one. Original Style make exactly four pieces in the Platinum finish and we stock all four: the Half Tile, the Skirting Tile 152x152mm, the Sigma Moulding 152x26mm and the Omega Moulding 152x12mm. Alongside them we hold eight decorative tiles carrying real platinum, several with real gold as well — two Art Deco Fans, two Manhattan Borders, two Fleur de Lis Borders and two Fleur de Lis two-tile sets, on Brilliant White, County White or black grounds. An accent finish, not a tiling finish There is no field tile in Platinum, and no cornice, corner trim or ornamented moulding. That is not an omission on our part — it is how the finish is made, and it tells you how to use it. Platinum is a band, a border, a skirting course and a fine line of bright metal, run against plain tiling in another Artworks colour. A whole wall of it is not something the range supports, and anyone planning one should talk to us first. Where it earns its keep In rooms short of daylight. A highly reflective surface works on the light already in the room and puts it back rather than absorbing it, so a windowless cloakroom, an internal shower or the blind end of a hallway is where the effect is most useful. It has no hue of its own, so there is nothing for it to clash with; what it contributes is brightness. It is at its sharpest run across a dark tile and at its quietest against a white one. Clea
