About

Andreas Durrer is a Swiss abstract painter. His work is characterised by a deep understanding of colour and form. He lives and works in Switzerland. Education In 1980 Andreas Durrer began his formal education in painting under the tutelage of Beppe Assenza, a notable figure in the art world. In 1984 after completing his studies, he became an assistant to Beppe Assenza while also engaging in freelance artistic activities. Technique Andreas Durrer primarily uses canvas as the medium for his work, with acrylic as his main colour material. His powerful colour mixtures are almost musical, inviting viewers to appreciate them for their own sake. The drastic simplification of forms and the use of unnatural colours deviate from realistic perceptions, is there to provoke us to experience them beyond the confines of external visual references. Inspiration Durrer is adept at reproducing the subjective mood evoked by objects. Even in his more muted tones, he transcends a cultivated "romanticism of simplicity." His works often feature a dramatic attempt to tear down anything overly harmonious or artificial. To achieve this, he employs linear structures that symbolise confinement, narrowness, convention, and fear, set against a backdrop of vibrant, inner colour dynamics. Exhibitions Andreas Durrer has many solo and group exhibitions in Europe and Canada.
