What Are Ceiling Pads? Ceiling pads are insulation pads sized to fit behind the tiles of a suspended (grid) ceiling system, rather than boards or rolls fitted into a stud wall or loft. Because a suspended ceiling tile alone offers very little thermal or acoustic performance on its own, a pad placed on top of the tile within the ceiling void adds mass and thickness the tile can't provide. They're a common retrofit and new-build addition in offices, retail units, schools, healthcare buildings and industrial spaces wherever a ceiling void sits above a standard 600 x 600mm or 1200 x 600mm grid. Types of Ceiling Pad Two ranges are stocked, each suited to different priorities. Tekfon's thermal-only Acoustic Ceiling Insulation Pads use A1 fire rated rock mineral wool at 45kg/m³ density, encapsulated in black polythene, with a declared thermal conductivity of 0.035 W/mK. The Acoustic Reduction Foil range takes the same rock mineral wool, available in 45kg/m³ or 60kg/m³ density, and adds a high-density polymeric mass core between two wool slabs, sealed in Class 0 silver foil, to improve sound reduction beyond what density and thickness alone provide. Tekwarm's Ceiling Insulation Pads use A1 fire rated glass mineral wool, with a declared thermal conductivity of 0.044 W/mK, also encapsulated in black recycled polythene. They're a straightforward, cost-effective option where thermal performance is the main requirement rather than acoustic reduction. Sizes and Thicknesses Pads are sized to fit standard suspended ceiling tiles: 600 x 600mm across the range, with 1200 x 600mm also available in the Tekfon Acoustic Reduction Foil range. Thicknesses run from 25mm up to 300mm depending on the range and product, so the right thickness depends on the depth of the ceiling void and the level of thermal or acoustic performance needed.
