Choosing your grooming kit Choice What it means Complete kit The everyday tools in one bag or box — the easiest and usually cheapest way to start. Check the piece count in the listing so you know exactly what is included. Curry comb A rubber or plastic comb used first, in small circles, to lift dried mud and loose hair out of the coat. Dandy brush A stiff-bristled brush that flicks away the dirt the curry comb has loosened. Usually too harsh for faces, legs and clipped coats. Body brush A soft brush for the finishing shine and for sensitive areas such as the face — the one your horse tends to enjoy most. Mitts and grooming blocks Inexpensive extras: a mitt gives the coat a final polish, and a grooming block helps lift loose hair when your horse is moulting.
