Ideal for shallow reefs, mangrove edges, yellowtail chum slicks, calm conditions, and anywhere a lighter jig out-fishes a heavier one. How to choose your micro jig Weight by depth/current: roughly 1.25–1.5g per foot to start. Reach for 15–30g in ~15–40 ft of light current, 40–60g for 40–80 ft, and the 80g as your light-tackle workhorse when there's more current or depth. If your line scopes out at an angle, go up a size. Tackle: micro jigs are a light-line game — think PE 0.8–2 braid on a light slow pitch rod. The lighter and more vertical your line, the better the action. When to downsize: heavily pressured fish, clear or calm water, smaller forage, and finicky bottom fish that snub bigger profiles. Don't mistake "light" for "small fish only." On light drag and a forgiving rod, micro jigs land surprisingly big reef fish — the finesse fight is the whole point. Most bites come on the fall.
