In 2017, his work was added to the public collection of the National Gallery of Victoria in Australia. Centered on the tradition of Japanese bamboo basket making, Hatsuta’s practice encompasses tea ceremony utensils such as tea scoops (chashaku) and tea baskets (chakago), exploring bamboo’s potential as a natural and sustainable material deeply rooted in Japan’s cultural heritage. In recent years, Hatsuta’s practice has expanded to include forms influenced by traditional Chinese tea wares.
