Flap discs grind and finish metal in one step. Overlapping abrasive flaps wear away as you work, exposing fresh grit, so they blend welds, remove rust and deburr edges with a smoother result than a grinding disc. How to choose a flap disc Grit: 40 to 60 grit removes welds and heavy rust. 80 to 120 grit blends and prepares surfaces for paint, such as the Dewalt DW8302 (60) and DW8303 (80). Shape: T27 flat discs (Norton T27, Lotus T27) work on flat surfaces. Conical T29 shapes grind edges and heavier stock. Size: 4" discs fit standard grinders. 5" discs and X-Lock discs, such as the Bosch X571, need a matching grinder. Flexible discs: flexible flap discs (Bosch X435, Tatara, Megatools FFD) follow curved surfaces. Use with Use with an angle grinder .
