What Makes a Lightweight eBike? Most electric bikes weigh between 50 and 70 lbs. Once you get past 60, lifting one into a truck bed or hauling it up a flight of stairs stops being a minor inconvenience and starts being a dealbreaker. That is why weight matters so much for apartment dwellers, RV travelers, and anyone who needs to physically move their bike on a regular basis. The industry does not have a hard standard for what counts as "lightweight." Most review sites and buyer guides typically use somewhere between 40 and 55lbs as their cutoff. Our lightest model, the XP Lite2, weighs 49 lbs total (41 lbs with the battery removed). The Lectric ONE comes in at 55 lbs. For comparison, the average folding eBike on the market sits somewhere around 60 to 65 lbs. Fat tire models often hit 70 or more. That type of weight makes it difficult for adults and seniors to be able to easily tote around. How Lectric Keeps Weight Down Without Cutting Corners Shaving pounds off an eBike usually means smaller batteries, weaker motors, or expensive carbon fiber frames. Lectric takes a different approach. The XP Lite2 uses a 6061-aluminum frame with a compact 300W rear hub motor and a 48V battery. It is not the lightest eBike on the market, but it hits a weight that most riders can actually manage while keeping the price at $799. The Lectric ONE takes a different path entirely. Its 6000-series aluminum frame pairs with a Pinion C1.6i enclosed gearbox and a Gates Carbon Drive Belt. That drivetrain setup replaces a traditional chain and derailleur system, which cuts down on maintenance weight over time and keeps the total bike weight at 55 lbs, even with a 750W motor inside. Both bikes are UL 2849 certified, which means the entire electrical system (motor, battery, controller, charger, and wiring) has been tested as a single unit for fire and electrical safety.
