The Black Templars are the Space Marine chapter that never stopped crusading. No Librarians, no diplomacy, no patience — just faith, chainswords and a very short walk across the board. They are the most aggressive way to play Space Marines, and once the black armour and bone-white shoulders come together they are one of the best-looking armies in Warhammer 40,000. Because the Upgrades and Transfers sprue converts ordinary Space Marine kits, you can then grow the crusade using anything from the wider Space Marines range rather than being limited to the Templar-branded boxes. Painting Black Templars Black armour has a reputation for being difficult, and it is only half deserved. The trick is that you are not painting black, you are painting the edges — a dark grey highlight does more than any amount of fussing with the base coat. The Black Templars Essential Paints 10-colour set gives you the scheme in one go, including the bone and red spot colours that make the black read properly.
