About
Our Lopsided Mugs Collection features freehand-designed mugs that are true originals. Each piece has a distinctive and unbalanced shape that gives it a playful charm. This collection, in its entirety, is crafted by Marunaka-san at his family’s historic kiln in the heart of Gifu, Japan. The unique form is both practical and visually captivating, with a sense of creative freedom. The origin of the Lopsided Mug Nestled along narrow roads and bridges in Gifu, the Marunaka kiln was originally established by Marunaka-san’s father to produce chawan mushi vessels. Over three decades later, Marunaka-san has expanded the kiln’s offerings to include ceramic sake cups, bowls, pourers , and his signature creation: the “lopsided” mugs. This untraditional shape has become a favourite. Each mug is celebrated for its quirky design and practicality of form . What makes our lopsided mugs special? Handcrafted from Minoyaki porcelain , every piece is made of a material known for its resilience. Once sculpted, they are fired at high temperatures to make them durable and heat resistant . These ceramic mugs feature a three-dimensional pattern that highlights their unique, organic shape. The slightly off-balance form feels comfortable in the hand , while the earthy base and delicate glazes give each piece an artistic look. They are perfect for everything from herbal tea to mulled wine. Advantages: Each mug’s freehand, lopsided shape brings a touch of creativity and individuality to your table. Made from durable Minoyaki ceramic and fired at high temperatures, these mugs are built to last. The ceramic material keeps drinks warm , ideal for leisurely tea or coffee moments. The three-dimensional finish adds visual interest and a tactile feel . Disadvantages: The lopsided design may feel unusua l for those accustomed to perfectly symmetrical mugs. Each piece may vary slightly in shape, size, or glaze finish. These mugs require gentle handling to prevent chips or cracks. Explore our Lopsided Mug
