Size 3 for ages 8 and under, size 4 for ages 8 to 14, and size 5 as the full adult match size from age 14 upward. Size 2 and 1 are skills and promotional balls rather than match balls. What is the difference between a training ball and a match ball? Training balls use thicker outer casings and more durable bladders to survive daily use on abrasive surfaces such as astro. Match balls prioritise consistent flight, truer shape retention and better feel, but wear faster under high-volume training. Which ball suits astroturf? A training ball with a textured, abrasion-resistant casing. Astro is significantly harder on footballs than grass, and a match ball used regularly on astro will lose shape and surface within a season.
