Oximeters are crucial medical devices used to measure the oxygen saturation level in a person's blood, as well as their heart rate. These non-invasive and portable devices work by emitting light through a finger or earlobe, and a sensor on the opposite side detects the amount of light absorbed by the oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. The oximeter then calculates the oxygen saturation level and displays it as a percentage on the screen. Oximeters are valuable tools in monitoring respiratory conditions, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, and can also be used during physical activities or at high altitudes to ensure adequate oxygen levels.
