Corn husks , or hojas de maíz , are the traditional non-edible wrappers used to make tamales. They add a subtle corn aroma, protect the masa during steaming, and give tamales their rustic appearance. Dried husks must be soaked in hot water to soften and are commonly sold in 1-lb bulk packages.
