Types of Bullnose Tiles Not all bullnose tiles work the same way. Understanding the main types helps you pick the right piece for each edge in your project. Rectangular Bullnose Tiles The most common type. One long edge is rounded while the rest of the tile is flat. Rectangular bullnose tiles in 3x6, 3x10, and 3x12 inch sizes are ideal for running along backsplash borders and shower walls where you need continuous linear coverage. Square Bullnose Tiles Square bullnose tiles, typically 6x6 inches, are used where a compact, balanced trim piece fits better than a long rectangular strip. They work well as corner accents or on smaller tiled wall sections. Double Bullnose Tiles A double bullnose tile has two rounded edges instead of one. This type is used at exposed corners, tiled privacy walls, and countertop ends where both the face and the side of the tile will be visible. The second rounded edge removes any unfinished appearance from the corner-facing side. Bullnose Tiles for Shower Walls and Niches Bullnose tiles in shower installations give exposed wall edges a smooth, rounded finish rather than a raw, cut profile. The rounded edge is also safer in enclosed shower spaces where the surface is frequently in close contact. For shower walls, a single row of bullnose tiles runs along the perimeter wherever the tile ends and the untiled wall surface begins. This is standard for walk-in showers, tub surrounds, and wet room walls. Shower niches are where bullnose tile in shower applications matter most. Each interior edge of the niche recess – top, bottom, and both sides – should be finished with a bullnose piece to give the niche a clean, frame-like appearance. Without bullnose tiles at the niche edge, the raw tile side is exposed and accumulates grime over time.
