Standard Sock Aids (Flexible Gutter Style) The classic sock aid is a lightweight plastic gutter on two rope handles. You load the sock over the frame, lower it to the floor, slide your foot into the opening and pull the handles upward. The sock rises with it. These work well for ordinary socks, ankle socks and light hosiery. They fold flat and pack easily for travel. Most have a smooth inner surface so socks glide on without bunching. Some include a terry-cloth or foam lining for extra grip on thinner fabrics. If you wear standard socks and struggle mainly with the bending motion, this style is usually the simplest starting point. Compression Stocking Applicators Compression stockings are firmer and tighter than regular socks, and they need a tool built for that resistance. A compression stocking applicator uses a rigid open frame — often a cone or gutter shape — paired with rope or strap handles. You stretch the stocking over the frame, position it at your foot and use the handles to roll or pull the garment up your leg in stages.
