Key magic is becoming more and more popular. The main appeal is that a key is a very common object, we all use one everyday and so everyone is familiar with them. Keys are also an object people still carry with them all the time, so it is natural for the magician to have one or two in his pockets without arousing suspicion. Engineering has improved now so that keys can be gaffed in similar ways to coins, and they are just as easy to manipulate.
