Choho Kiln

Choho Kiln was founded by Nishi Chosaku, who, together with his brother Taikichi, pioneered the application of mori-e to Kutani ware figurines in the late Taisho period (1912–1926 CE). Originally used on flat surfaces, this raised enamel technique proved exceptionally suited to sculptural works such as maneki neko , lucky cats, and soon became a defining decorative method for Kutani porcelain figures. Today, the third generation preserves the mori-e tradition while continuing to explore new possibilities within this decorative Kutani ware style.
