The name Shachihata is derived from a combination of two words reflecting its cultural heritage: Shachi : A mythical Japanese creature featuring a tiger's head and a carp's body, which is believed to protect buildings from fire by summoning rain, often seen in pairs on rooftops of Japanese castles (specifically Nagoya Castle) and temples. Hata: The Japanese word for "flag."
