Boot Night Splints for Plantar Fasciitis & Heel Pain A boot night splint is the most widely prescribed night splint for treating plantar fasciitis and chronic heel pain. Worn on the back of the leg and foot during sleep, it holds the ankle in a dorsiflexed position — gently stretching the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon overnight so that the sharp, stabbing pain of those first morning steps is significantly reduced. The boot-style design features a rigid plastic outer shell for structure, a soft padded inner liner for comfort, and a treaded walking sole so you can get up safely during the night. The adjustable angle of dorsiflexion makes it the most customizable of the night splint options. How a Boot Night Splint Works Worn on the back (posterior) of the leg and foot during sleep Holds the ankle at or near 90° of dorsiflexion Provides a sustained overnight stretch to the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon Prevents the fascia from tightening during sleep — the primary cause of morning heel pain Treaded sole allows safe nighttime walking Conditions Treated Plantar fasciitis — inflammation of the plantar fascia ligament causing heel pain Achilles tendinitis — tightness and pain along the back of the heel Morning heel pain — sharp first-step pain after rest Tight calf muscles contributing to foot and heel discomfort Chronic heel pain unresponsive to stretching alone Boot Night Splint vs. Dorsal Night Splint Boot night splint (posterior): Fits on the back of the leg. Dorsal night splint: Fits on the front of the foot and leg. Lower profile, less bulky, often considered more comfortable for sleeping. See our Dorsal Night Splint collection . Tips for Using a Night Splint Wear every night for best results — consistency is key Most patients notice improvement within 4–8 weeks of nightly use Combine wi
