Electron injection layer (EIL) materials are used to reduce the work function at the cathode to facilitate efficient charge transport within electronic devices. By reducing the energy barrier, the required operating voltage can be reduced. EIL materials are used particularly in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) where the electron affinity of the materials is typically lower than in other organic electronic devices.
