Molybdenum diselenide (MoSe 2 ) is a two-dimensional (2D) transition metal chalcogenide that consists of layers of molybdenum atoms sandwiched between layers of selenium atoms. It belongs to the transition metal dichalcogenide family of materials and is isostructural with MoS 2 . When reduced to a single layer, it exhibits a direct band gap, making it highly effective for optoelectronic applications such as photodetectors, transistors, and solar cells. The material is known for its strong light-matter interactions, high mechanical flexibility, and good thermal stability.
