Founded in 2021 by Tom Liggett , a former Tesla engineer and passionate thru-hiker, Alpenglow Gear was born from a love of the outdoors and a drive to make backpacking simpler, lighter, and smarter. What started as a personal project to create an ultralight bear canister soon evolved into something even more practical — the Alpenblow , a featherlight USB-C powered air pad inflator. Designed, tested, and refined during Tom’s Pacific Crest Trail thru-hike, the Alpenblow quickly became a favorite among ultralight hikers for its durability, efficiency, and weight of just 0.3 oz. Hand-assembled in Redwood City, California , Alpenglow Gear combines engineering precision with trail-tested experience to create innovative tools that make life on the trail easier. From the Alpenblow to new designs like the Alpenflow and Alpenstow , Tom continues to push the boundaries of what ultralight gear can be: gear made by a hiker, for hikers .
