Originally known as GVP, Gossamer Gear is an ultralight equipment brand started by Californian civil engineer Glen Van Peski back in 1998. The story goes that while hunting down a decent backpack for his son’s scout trips, he was recommended a book by ultralight hiking evangelist Ray Jardine. This inspirational tome sent Glen straight to the sewing machine, and the result was a featherweight home-cooked pack dubbed the G1. Nearly 30 years later, Gossamer are now true veterans of the ultralight game, applying the kind of knowledge you can only acquire from serious miles out in the wilderness to their collection of supremely useful packs, tents and equipment. From the ergonomic frame of the Mariposa backpack to the ingenious shape of the Twinn Tarp shelter, this is meticulous minimalism for those who travel light.
