Mike Pfotenhauer created Osprey bags in 1974 during outdoors' golden era, when many of today's big brands were fledgling businesses turning their passion into livelihoods. A gifted and technically minded outdoorsman he started to develop many of the standards in packs now widely accepted as fundamental, first as specialist one-offs for customers before developing slowly into the mainstay it has become today . Often associated with that big pack you bought from the local outdoor shop to go backpacking, their past masters at making sturdy ultra-comfortable packs but now they’re also realising new product with a more considered approach to both the environment and modern outdoor tastes.
