Anipal is an Australian brand making dog collars and leads, cat collars and harnesses and horse halter sets from recycled plastic bottles, with the collar and lead prints named after Australian native species — Billie the Bilby, Kylo the Koala, Piper the Platypus, Clancy the Black Cockatoo, Gigi the Gouldian Finch and Bobby the Butterfly. Alongside the webbing range sits a smaller vet-developed line: four powder meal toppers, a dog toothpaste and two seaweed treats. Two things are worth knowing before choosing. The cat collars use a breakaway safety buckle and a bell, so they release under load — that is the point of them, and it is also why a cat collar is not something to clip a lead to. Walk a cat in the Gigi harness and lead set instead. On the dog side the sizes overlap, at 20-35cm Small, 30-45cm Medium and 40-60cm Large, so measure the neck rather than choosing by breed. Billie the Bilby and Piper the Platypus are available as a matching collar and 130cm lead. The 135g topper jars hold 45 serves for a 25kg dog, so a jar lasts a large dog around six weeks and a small dog considerably longer. Puppy Formula covers 8 weeks to about 12-18 months of age, after which Anipal suggests moving to the Gut Formula.
