Barastoc is one of the oldest names in Australian stockfeed, made by Ridley in Victoria and sold through produce stores for generations. The range covers four fairly separate jobs, and it helps to know which part of it you are shopping. Which range do you need? Horse. The horse range is organised by workload, not by breed. Working back from the top: Race N Win and Furlong are racing rations; Command and Complete Performer are for horses in hard work; Calm Performer is the cool, low-starch option for light to moderate work; and Low Cal Cruiser is for the pony that gets fat on air. Feeding a performance ration to a horse in light work is the most common and most expensive mistake in the range. Poultry. Backyard chooks move through three feeds: Chick Starter to about six weeks, Pullet Grower to point of lay, then a layer feed such as Golden Yolk . The calcium in a layer feed is too high for growing birds, so the middle stage matters more than it looks. Hobby farm and livestock. Species-specific pellets for goats , alpacas and pigs, plus the Rumevite sheep and cattle line. Sheep and goats have opposite copper requirements, so a goat feed is not a sheep feed. A note on the big bags. Most of this range is 20kg. Freight on a 20kg bag is significant, so the sensible way to buy it is pickup or a combined order rather than one bag at a time.
