Cats are creatures of routine, and the things that unsettle them are usually specific and short-lived: a move, a new cat over the back fence, fireworks, a car trip, a visitor staying the week. Our cat calming and anxiety range is a small, deliberately chosen shelf of supplements and one environmental spray intended to support a cat through those periods. None of these products is a substitute for veterinary advice, and none of them treats a diagnosed behavioural condition — read the section below before you buy. Chews, powders and sprays Chews are the simplest to give to a cat that takes treats: PAW by Blackmores Complete Calm for Cats and ThunderWunders Calming Chews for Cats are both fed by hand or dropped in the bowl. Powders and capsules go through food and suit cats that are suspicious of anything treat-shaped — Zylkene, which is packaged in a 75mg strength for cats and small dogs, Natural Animal Solutions Calm and Calm & Relax, Protexin Veterinary Serenicare, and PETMIMA Relax & Calm with ashwagandha. The Nature's Miracle Advanced Platinum Cat Calming Spray works differently again: it goes on bedding, a carrier or a scratching post rather than on the cat, so it is the option for a cat you cannot reliably dose. If you are preparing for a known event such as a house move, most labels suggest starting a few days ahead rather than on the day. When to talk to your vet Behaviour that reads as anxiety in a cat — hiding, over-grooming, toileting outside the tray, sudden aggression, howling at night — very often has a medical explanation underneath it, from pain to thyroid or urinary problems. A supplement will not resolve any of those, and delaying a check-up while you try one is the real risk. Get the cat examined first, then use these products as part of whatever plan your vet sets out.
