A topper is a small amount of something more interesting stirred through or scattered over a cat's normal meal. None of these is a complete and balanced diet on its own; check the pack, because a topper belongs on top of a complete food rather than in place of one. Freeze-dried, wet or broth? Freeze-dried boosters are crumbled or sprinkled dry and keep well once opened, so they suit a one-cat household where a wet sachet would go to waste. Introducing a topper Start with a smaller amount than the pack allows and build up over several days; a sudden strong flavour can put a cautious cat off the meal underneath it. Warming a wet topper slightly lifts the aroma, which matters for older cats with a dulled sense of smell.
