Diamond is the hoofcare range from Kerckhaert, the Dutch horseshoe maker, and it is sold through farriers rather than as a general grooming line. PeekAPaw carries four products: hoof grease in black and natural, hoof oil, frog dressing, and the magnetic brush that clips to the tins. Grease or oil? They do the same daily job on the hoof wall and coronary band. The grease is heavier and stays put longer between applications; the oil is thinner, brushes out further and is faster if you are doing a whole yard each morning. Black and natural grease are the same product with and without pigment — black darkens a pale or striped hoof for the show ring, natural leaves the horn its own colour. Frog Dressing is a different product entirely. It is a run-free blue gel for the central sulcus and frog, dyed so you can see when it has worn off. It is a hygiene product, not a treatment: an established infection or any lameness needs your farrier or vet, not a dressing. None of these will harden a weak hoof on their own.
