About
Freeze dried cat treats are raw meat, fish or offal with the moisture removed at low temperature, so nothing is cooked and the ingredient list is usually a single protein. For a cat, that matters more than it does for a dog. Cats form strong food preferences early and are genuinely difficult to shift, and a freeze dried treat smells much more like prey than a baked biscuit does — which is why they work on cats that turn their nose up at everything else. The most useful thing you can do with them is crumble rather than serve. A freeze dried chicken breast or a green lipped mussel crushed over a meal turns an ignored bowl of food into an interesting one, and it is a far easier way to get something into a fussy cat than any powder. It is also how many owners get a kibble-fed cat used to the smell and texture of raw food before changing the diet itself. Keep the quantity honest. Treats should stay a small fraction of what your cat eats in a day, and freeze dried pieces are concentrated because the water is gone — a few grams goes further than it looks. Reseal the pack; once the pieces take moisture back out of the air they soften and lose their crunch.
