About

The Royal Canin dry cat food range is organised by lifestyle first and breed second, which is the opposite of how the dog range works. Most cats are best matched on how they live: Indoor for cats that never go outside, Fit for cats with regular outdoor access, Sterilised for desexed cats, and Light Weight Care or Appetite Control Care where weight has already crept up. Bags run from a 400g trial size to 10kg. Desexing is the change most owners under-react to. Energy needs drop and appetite rises at the same time, which is why the Sterilised line exists as its own life stage — Kitten Sterilised, Sterilised Adult and Sterilised 7+ — rather than as a variant of Adult. If your cat was desexed months ago and is still on kitten or standard adult food, that is worth changing before you start managing a weight problem. The breed formulas — British Shorthair, Persian, Maine Coon, Ragdoll and Siamese, plus Persian and Maine Coon kitten versions — differ mainly in kibble shape. Persian kibble is almond-shaped so a flat-faced cat can pick it up; Maine Coon kibble is a large disc for a big jaw. The Exigent pair (Aromatic, and Savour Sensation) are aimed at fussy cats and target different senses, so if one is refused the other is a reasonable next try. Targeted lines such as Urinary Care, Hairball Care and Dental Care are everyday maintenance foods; a cat with a diagnosed condition needs a veterinary diet chosen with your vet, not a retail formula.
