Thierry Mugler’s fashion house emerged in Paris in the 1970s with a futuristic, sculptural and theatrical vision that rejected understated minimalism. That creative ambition transformed fragrance with Angel in 1992, a groundbreaking sweet gourmand whose use of edible, chocolate-like and caramelised facets helped establish a major new perfume category. A*Men extended the idea for men, while Alien developed a radiant amber-floral signature of its own. Mugler’s fragrance legacy is therefore substantial: a comparatively modern house that did not inherit perfume tradition so much as actively change it.
