About

Caltha is a genus of herbaceous perennial plants in the Ranunculaceae family. It includes around 20 species of plants that are commonly known as marsh marigolds or cowslips. The plants are native to wet meadows, marshes, and riverbanks in temperate regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Caltha plants produce bright, cheerful yellow flowers that resemble the flowers of marigolds. The flowers are typically cup-shaped and have five to nine petals. The leaves are usually round or kidney-shaped and grow on long petioles. The plants bloom in early spring and can continue to flower for several weeks.
